Wimauma, Florida -- On the night of Dec. 11, a local veterans club hosted a benefit for a local Marine injured in basic training.

Nick Battles' injuries were so severe, they left him a quadriplegic. To help, the Valencia Lakes Military Club hosted a Dinner Dance Benefit at the Valencia Lakes Social Hall in an effort to raise money for him. Proceeds from ticket sales for the event, raffle ticket and gift basket sales, and donations were all given to Battles.

While Battles does have access to health care through the VA Hospital, Nick Fazio, president of the Valencia Lakes Military Club, says they recognize there are "little things that are needed and aren't being covered because he doesn't have all the resources available to him that there would be for a combat veteran."

The club raised $2,000 which was presented to Battles at the event.
