Deputies hunting in Brandon for hit and run driver

Brandon, Florida -- "If they went to Wal-Mart once, they'll probably come back here again," said Deputy David Martinez.

With 18 years on the force, Deputy Martinez knows how people think. It's one of the ways cops hunt down suspects.
Investigators with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office are searching the area of Bloomingdale and Bell Shoals Road in Brandon where a woman driving a gold Lexus SUV cut off Dave Lindsay and his wife, Connie, on their motorcycle Thursday night.

"This is a vehicle there aren't many of -- a gold Lexus SUV driven by a woman with blonde, shoulder-length hair, about 40-55. Someone knows who this person is," said HSCO spokesman Det. Larry KcKinnon.

"I saw the lady in the truck. She was looking right at me and I asked her to help us and she drove off," said Lindsay.

Cops say therein lies the crime.

"It is absolutely required by law that if you're involved in an accident with or without injuries, you must stop," said McKinnon.

So patrol deputies are cruising the accident area, especially the parking lot of Wal-Mart where the driver made her getaway, because surveillance cameras captured nothing.

"Very few of the businesses in here have surveillance video in the parking lots, and if they do, it's limited to the area by the front doors. There isn't any surveillance video," said Martinez.

So this is where the public comes in. Cops have already spoken with the witnesses, but they need more information. If you have it, call the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office in Tampa.
