Update: Fatal SB I-75 crash closed lanes for 3 hours

Apollo Beach, Florida -- UPDATE: The accident that reduced southbound I-75 to one lane near Big Bend Rd. Friday resulted in one fatality, Florida Highway Patrols announced Friday evening.

According to reports, the driver of the semi tractor trailer, 30-year-old Yadian Rodriguez, had just passed the exit for Big Bend Rd. when he began to pull into the outside emergency lane. 

At the same time, 42-year-old Veronica Edwards was merging onto the exit ramp in her van. Reports say she then drove back across the painted gore near the ramp, and collided with the back of Rodriguez's empty flatbed trailer.  

Edwards received fatal injuries, and officials said she passed away at the scene of the crash.

Southbound I-75 was reduced to one lane for over three hours as officials worked the crash. 

Florida Highway Patrol troopers are working with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office on a traffic crash on I-75 at Big Bend Road.

Authorities have shut down all but the left lane on the highway as they work on the crash site.

Sources at the scene report the accident involved a van and a flat-bed semi tractor trailer and there was a fatality.
