You have a chance to make a difference in the lives of those battling not only breast cancer, but ovarian, prostate, and even melanoma cancers.

Thousands of survivors, runners, and walkers all took part in the 7th Annual Miles for Moffitt Saturday, May 12 at the University of South Florida Sundome. It's estimated that 7,000 people attended.

Miles for Moffitt brings together cancer survivors, patients, friends, families, and others who want to support local cancer research.

The events, which include 5K, 5 mile, and 1 mile walks/runs kicked off just before 7:30 a.m.

10 News anchors Heather Van Nest and Reginald Roundtree were honored to serve as emcees. The special survivor's tribute ceremony around 9:15 a.m. is one of the many highlights.

All of the registration fees/donations go directly to support cancer research. Sponsors underwrite all of the expenses associated with the race.

Since 2006, the event has raised more than $800,000, and organizers hope this year's event will put them over the million dollar mark.

One hundred percent of the entry fees benefit scientists at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa. The money will be used for research, clinical trials, prevention, and cancer control.

10 News is a proud sponsor of Miles for Moffitt.
