Armwood inks 4 players on National Signing Day

Seffner, Florida -- In Seffner Wednesday, the Armwood Hawks signed four players on National Signing Day.

This year's signees included safety Kyle Gibson, who will be playing for the UCF Knights in Orlando. Joining him in the Sunshine State is running back Craig Carrington, who will be playing for Stetson University in Deland.

Rounding out this year's class are teammates Hyriam Fredrick and Thomas Bartley, who will both be playing at Alabama State next year.

Hunter Zilbar named Player of the Week

Seffner, Florida - Armwood High School wide receiver Hunter Zilbar is the 10 News Sports Player of the Week.

Last Friday night in Armwood's thrilling 35-28 triple overtime victory over Bartram Trail, Zilbar made several key third down catches, as well as a diving touchdown grab at the pylon in the first overtime.

The Armwood senior isn't the Hawks biggest or fastest wide receiver, but when quarterback Noah Johnson is in trouble, Zilbar is definitely the go to guy.

Armwood survives 3OT's to advance to state championship

Seffner, FL - The Armwood Hawks advance to the Class 6A state championship game next week in Orlando with a 35-28 triple overtime win against Bartram Trail.

And once again, it was defense that made the difference for the Hawks.

ordan Griffin got Armwood on the board early when he returned an interception 3-yards.

In overtime, it was the defense holding Bartram Trail on fourth down to preserve the 35-28 win.

Armwood (14-0) now plays Miami Central (13-1) on Saturday, December 14th at 1:07 pm at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando.

Play #2 - From the Port Charlotte-East Lake game... East Lake's Artavis Scott tracks down the punt... looks for some room... finds it left... breaks a few tackles... and Scott motors 68 yards on the punt return... - East Lake routs Port Charlotte.

Play #1 - Armwood QB Noah Johnson scrambles... throws it in the end zone where Hunter Zilbar makes a great one-handed catch for the TD... Armwood wallops Springstead.

Plant rides stout defense to 17-7 Region Final win

Fort Pierce, FL-- Patrick Brooks scored both touchdowns, and the defense held Ft. Pierce Central to less than 200 yards of total offense, as Plant won an 8A Region Final, 17-7.

Colby Brown connected with Brooks for Plant's first touchdown, to tie the game at 7-7.  Clarke Miller booted a 24-yard field goal to take the lead at 10-7 in the 2nd quarter. 

Brooks then ran for an 11-yard score in the 4th quarter, to finish off the scoring.

Plant is now 11-1-1, and hosts top-ranked Apopka next Friday night, in an 8A state semifinal.
