CVS theft leads to Motel 6 meth lab bust

Brandon, Florida -- Deputies investigating a theft at a Brandon CVS Pharmacy Tuesday morning led them to the discovery of a meth lab in the suspects' motel room.

Hillsborough Sheriff's deputies say on July 30 around 7 a.m., Jaime Gay and Colleen Cooke stole just over $75 worth of merchandise and then handed the items over to Nicole McCall who went back into the store to try to return them for cash.

The manager refused and all three left the store in a Maroon 1996 Ford Explorer. Deputies tracked down the SUV and pulled it over.

During the stop, Gay's attempt to provide a false name didn't work. After they learned he was driving on a suspended license, deputies searched him and found five counterfeit $20 bills in his pants pocket.

Deputies then learned the trio had been staying at the Motel 6 on Falkenburg Road and Highway 60. When they got to the room to conduct a search they found out Gay had been making meth in the room.
