2013 Tampa Bay Hurricane Expo blows into town this weekend

 

Tampa Bay, Florida-- The City of Tampa and Hillsborough County, in partnership with MOSI, will host the 2013 Tampa Bay Hurricane Expo from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, at the Museum of Science & Industry. .

The following individuals will serve as experts during the expo:

Highlands County, Florida-- After yesterday's wildfire in Highlands Hammock State Park, and last week's wildfire in East Hills Sebring, Florida Forest Service want to warn locals to consider what affect this week's unexpected weather change could have on the area. 

They say dry air and cold fronts increase wildfire potential, and encourage you to "think before you burn!"

Hardee County offering sand bags, but no closures reported

Hardee County offering sand bags, but no closures reported

Wauchula, Florida -- With the National Hurricane Center forecasting Hardee County within the 5-day track of Tropical Storm Isaac, local emergency management officials are keeping in constant contact with state and regional emergency agencies. 

On Thursday, the county announced the availability of sandbags at the Hardee County Road Department in Wauchula. Up to 25 bags per household will be available between 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Residents will have to fill the bags with sand themselves.

Hillsborough County, Florida -- Tomorrow, July 28 will be the last day residents can visit the FEMA/State Disaster Recovery Center in Hillsborough County until 6 p.m.

The center is located at the University Area Community Development Center at 14013 N. 22nd St. in Tampa.

Residents in Hillsborough who still need face-to-face help can visit the 3 remaining centers located in the Tampa Bay area.

County issues flood warning for Wesley Chapel area

Wesley Chapel, Florida -- The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a Flood Warning for Pasco County near Cypress Creek at Worthington Gardens near Wesley Chapel.

According to the NWS, the river at Cypress Creek at Worthington Gardens could remain above the eight foot minor flood stage level (8.8 feet) until Friday, July 27.

The County’s Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) at 4444 Grand Avenue (Corner of Grand and Trouble Creek Road), New Port Richey is open to assist residents. It’s open Monday through Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Sunday, noon to 6:00 p.m.
