Cheapest gas prices

Plant City -- We are all feeling the pain at the pump and gas prices don't appear to be going down anytime soon.

In just the past two weeks prices have shot up, on average, 40 cents a gallon.

Right now $3.45 seems to be about the cheapest in the area.

Permit upheld for bridge connector

Permit upheld for bridge connector

Tampa, FL -- Connecting New Tampa Boulevard to Commerce Park Boulevard in Tampa Palms is a proposed bridge connector that would cross I-75 and about 2.2 acres of wetlands.

It's a polarizing issue with residents of communities near the connector predominantly opposed to the plan as it would bring increased traffic through Tampa Palms and into the West Meadows neighborhoods off New Tampa Boulevard.

New bridge connector in New Tampa?

New bridge connector in New Tampa?

Tampa, FL -- Tampa transportation officials are looking at constructing a new bridge to connect New Tampa Boulevard around West Meadows to Tampa Palms on the west side of I-75.

If built, this bridge would travel over some wetlands and include an 8-foot wide trail for pedestrians and bicyclists.

Officials note this is not an east-west connector which has been proposed before for the region. That project stalled out per lack of funding.

Valrico, FL -- With gas prices going up a lot of folks could be turning to two wheels to get around.

And over the last few years, several bicyclists have been killed or injured on Bay Area roads. Hillsborough County residents are asked to give their input on the draft Hillsborough County Bicycle Safety Action Plan.

Due to the increase of those bicycle accidents in the County, Hillsborough County Commissioner Mark Sharpe initiated a coalition of representatives from key agencies responsible for bicycle safety to study the issue.

Be careful when parking downtown

Tampa, FL -- The installation of the new, on-street, solar-powered pay stations in the downtown core was completed in January 2011.

As of Monday, Feb. 21 the City of Tampa Parking Division's courtesy warning program for downtown will no longer be in effect.

During the 12-week installation period, the Parking Division issued in excess of 3,200 courtesy warning citations in an attempt to educate motorists and parking patrons on the use of the new pay stations. The pay stations replaced approximately 1,000 of the City's existing 1,425 single-space meters.
