Meeting regarding improvements to Gibsonton street

Gibsonton, Florida - Hillsborough County is holding a public meeting to discuss proposed improvements to the intersection of Symmes Road and East Bay Road in the Gibsonton area.

The proposed improvements include an interim project, that is funded, to install a new traffic signal with mast arms, ADA-compliant ramps and pedestrian crosswalks.

Proposed future improvements, not currently funded for construction, include additional turn-lanes, sidewalks and bicycle lanes, and construction of curbs and gutters.

Apollo Beach, FL -- The U.S. Highway 41 Zoning Overlay District Working Committee& is meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 13 at 6 p.m. in the South Shore Regional Library, 15816 Beth Shields Way in Ruskin.

The committee is made up of community members and stakeholders that help county staff come up with recommendations on how to improve the appearance of U.S. 41 within the Apollo Beach and Ruskin communities.

Traffic app helps holiday shoppers

Before you head out to the mall this year for Christmas shopping keep in mind that you can take a look at what traffic looks like before you get on the highway.

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has an app for that.

The Florida 511 app now features traffic camera views that show crashes, congestion and other incidents on all of Florida's interstates and roll roads. The app uses the iPhone's GPS tracking to provide you with traffic information within miles of your location.

Bus Service being cut in downtown Tampa

Tampa, Florida -- Due to a reduced budget, HART is cutting back on its downtown circulation hours, effective Sunday, Nov. 13.

Downtown Routes 96 and 97 will be impacted.

The hours of operation for weekday trolley Route 96 will change to 6:00 - 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 - 6:00 p.m. Service will remain every 15 minutes and costs 25 cents. The weekend trolley Route 97 service will be eliminated.

Additional routes that will be affected include 1, 2, 8, 12, 15, 18, 30, 34, 37, 39, 46, and 27LX.

Tampa, FL -- Average retail gasoline prices in Tampa fell 4.3 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.29/g yesterday. This compares with the national average that fell 2.9 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.43/g, according to gasoline price website TampaGasPrices.com.

The Transportation Lounge website allows registered users to post comments, ask questions, respond to others' posts and link information to their Facebook and Twitter accounts.
