Chamberlain advances to region final

Tampa, FL-- Chamberlain advanced to Saturday's boys basketball 5A region final with a 48-45 win over Sickles.

The Chiefs rallied from a 7-point deficit in the 4th quarter to win.  Roderick Hart hit two key free throws to break a 45-45 tie with 12 seconds left.  Reggie Hart led the Chiefs with 21 points.

Rashawn Rembert led the Gryphons with 17.

Chamberlain will play Gibbs Saturday for the 5A region final and the chance to go to the state tournament in Lakeland.

Tampa, FL-- The Durant HS boys soccer team defeated Gaither, 3-2, Friday afternoon in the 5A state semi-final game.  Durant will now play St. Thomas Aquinas in the state championship game, Saturday at 4:30pm at UT's Pepin Stadium.

Gaither's Charles Delmar tied the contest in the 2nd half, on a header off a penalty kick.

Durant won it, with 8 minutes to go, on a goal from Connor Bass, from 25 yards out... 3-2 the final score.

Tampa, FL-- The Newsome HS girls soccer team rallied for 3 goals in the last 4 minutes, to defeat Seminole, 3-1, in the 5A state semifinal.

Liz Haumschild scored the tying and lead goals, in the last 4 minutes, on assists from Shea Rhoney.  Rhoney scored the last goal with 18 seconds remaining.

Gina Hayduke scored the first goal of the game for Seminole, in the 16th minute.

Newsome, with a 25-0 record and ranked #2 in the nation, will play St. Thomas Aquinas for the 5A state championship, Saturday at 1:30pm, at UT's Pepin Stadium.

GRCC 17th Annual Golf Tournament March 19

The Greater Riverview Chamber of Commerce will be holding its 17th Annual Golf Tournament on Saturday, March 19 at Summerfield Crossings Golf Club which is located at 13050 Summerfield Blvd. in Riverview.

Registration begins at 11 a.m. with a shotgun start at 1:00 p.m.  Four player teams and individual players are welcome.  Local businesses are invited to showcase their organization and become a hole sponsor for $150.  This is your opportunity to be creative and enjoy the spotlight.  Another option is to display your organization’s name as a Green Sponsor for $75.

This year, there is an inclusive team sponsorship package available, playfully called “The Hole Package” which includes one foursome team, 4 entries in the P.F. Auto Glass Putting Contest, 4 entries in the Superior Residences of Brandon Memory Care Chipping Contest, hole sponsorship, listed as an event sponsor, GRCC newsletter and website acknowledgement, lunch for four sponsored by Chick-fil-A at Lake Brandon Village and 4 dinner tickets; all for $600.

A team foursome is $350 or individual players $90.

Tampa, FL -- Seniors can soon enjoy a free day inside the Museum of Science and Industry.


MOSI will offer free health screenings, coffee and goodies. Activities include bingo and access to the museum's 450 exhbits. A DJ will provide entertainment.


The FREE Senior Fun Fest starts at 9 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 18 inside the museum.


Come out early for MOSI's 14th Annual Backwoods Walk to benefit MOSI's educational programs.

Local middle school students to compete in Bucs "Play 60 Challenge"

Local middle school students to compete in Bucs "Play 60 Challenge"

Tampa, FL -- On Wednesday, Feb. 9, students will compete for thousands of dollars to support their school while getting in shape.

Five local middle schools will bring 10 students each to participate in the Buccaneers' "Play 60 Challenge" at One Buccaneer Place. The "Play 60 Challenge" is a program between the NFL and the American Heart Association that inspires students to be physically active for at least 60 minutes every day.

The grants awarded to the schools will benefit their physical education programs and help fund new athletic equipment.
 
Throughout the season, Buccaneers players visited middle schools to promote the NFL Play 60 initiative, emphasizing the importance of healthy living and physical fitness. The participants in Wednesday's fitness challenge have been selected to represent their school based on their academic and athletic achievements.
