Armwood Runs Past Charlotte 28-12

Seffner, Fl - The Charlotte Fightin' Tarpons traveled north to take on the Armwood Hawks in a battle of unbeaten teams.   The game was a rematch of last year's regional finals, which Armwood won, in Charlotte.

Early in the game, it was Armwood's defense that set the tone for the entire game. Charlotte recovered an Armwood fumble on the opening kickoff, and had the ball deep in Hawks territory.   But with first and goal from the five, Armwood's defense held, and Charlotte had to settle for a field goal.

In the second quarter, Armwood made the most of a Charlotte fumble, with Matt Jones finishing off a short drive, with a three yard run to give the Hawks the lead. Armwood quarterback Josh Grady had another great game, finishing with more than 180 yards passing and two touchdowns, and a touchdown on the ground. Grady hit Ronnie Thomas for an 80-yard score and Armwood had a 14-10 halftime lead.

In the third quarter, it was Grady again, scoring on a 10-yard run, and Armwood was pulling away from Charlotte. With the score 21-12, Grady hit fullback Kyle Wilcox with a short swing pass that Wilcox turned into a 75-yard scoring play. Armwood's defense limited Charlotte running back Mike Bellamy to only 49 yards on 19 carries, and no touchdowns, ending a streak of 38 consecutive games in which Bellamy had scored a touchdown.

Armwood (13-0) will now face Dywer, at home, in the 4A state semi-finals.
