National Weather Service out of Ruskin improving its Doppler radar

Ruskin, Fla. -- The National Weather Service - Tampa Bay area - is located at 2525 14th Ave SE in Ruskin and is improving its Doppler radar serving West Central and Southwest Florida by installing the latest dual polarization technology.

Installation will begin Monday, Feb. 27 and will last approximately 12 days.

Organizers say this technology will give forecasters better information about heavy rainfall in flooding events, hail detection in thunderstorms, and even recognize whether precipitation is in the form of rain, snow or ice.

Ruskin, Florida -- Adults can learn how to become a member, browse, search, and buy items on Craigslist at the Ruskin Branch library at 26 Dickman Drive Southeast in Ruskin on Thursday, Feb. 2.

Basic mouse and keyboarding skills are recommended.

The class is being held in the Pauline Dickman Lawler Community Room from 3 to 3:30 p.m. Then from 3:45 to 4:30 p.m. participants can take another class to learn how to create a listing, and sell items on Craigslist.

Hillsborough County, FL -- Starting today, Jan. 5, voters who visit www.VoteHillsborough.org on their smartphones will find an enhanced mobile website designed to make navigation easier and more efficient.

The mobile site features four quick links allowing voters to check their registration status, request a Vote By Mail/Absentee Ballot, check the status of their Vote By Mail/Absentee Ballot, and locate their polling location.

Ruskin, Florida -- If you have ever wanted to learn how to read eBooks, now is your chance.

A demonstration is being held at the SouthShore Regional Library at 15816 Beth Shields Way in Ruskin on Thursday, Dec. 29 from 12:15 p.m. until 2:30 p.m.

The demonstration will include the Overdrive Media Console and Adobe Digital Editions. Organizers say participants will learn how to check out and download eBooks to their PC or eReader too.

Ruskin, Florida -- Florida Telecommunications Relay, Inc. provides free specialized equipment and training to qualified Florida residents who are deaf, hard of hearing, or speech-impaired.

The equipment enables them to place and receive phone calls.

The next telephone distribution event on Dec. 28 for the deaf is being held at the SouthShore Regional Library located at 15816 Beth Shields Way in Ruskin from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
