"Florida's Best Crossing Guard Program" awards Hillsborough County

Hillsborough County, Florida-- Parents in Hillsborough County can rest easy knowing their children's crossing guards are hard at work day in, and day out. 

According to a recent release,the Florida Department of Transportation presented the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office with an award for the "Florida's Best Crossing Guard Program" Friday morning.

Westchase Elementary jumps ropes for heart

Tampa, Florida -- Westchase Elementary students are jumping rope for heart, raising money for the American Heart Association.

Students who raise at least $100 will become members of the "Tape Em to the Wall Club", which means they'll be able to tape two teachers to the bulletin board in the cafeteria! The student will also enjoy the benefits of fighting heart disease and earn recognition on the physical education bulletin board in the cafeteria.

The deadline to raise money is Friday, February 15th, the day the school will jump rope for heart.

Finalists compete in USF's 5th annual Young Innovator Competition

Tampa, Florida -- The University of South Florida will host the finals of the Young Innovator Competition Monday, Feb. 11, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Patel Center for Global Solutions on USF's Tampa campus. 

An expo featuring the inventions begins at 5 p.m., with judging and awards following between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.

As is tradition, the competition is being held on Thomas Alva Edison's birthday and in celebration of the spirit of invention and ingenuity. More than 500 entries were received from students in the Tampa Bay Region for the competition.

Tampa Prep Terrapins make a difference in Wimauma

 

Wimauma, Florida – Two busloads of tenth-graders from Tampa Preparatory School unleashed a morning of good cheer Monday that flattered and entertained more than 200 young children in Wimauma.

The students’ visit to RCMA’s Wimauma Academy and Bethel Migrant Head Start Center was part of Terrapin Day, an annual day of community service staged by students at Tampa Prep. This was the fourth year they have visited the Wimauma sites, which cater to the rural poor.
