17th Annual Back to School Bash

Tampa, Florida -- The Back to School Bash is an annual, two-day, fun filled event!

It provides everyone who attends an opportunity to enjoy interactive exhibits, live family entertainment, and sample new treats for this year's lunch box!

In 2011 winners took away one of the door prizes; with one lucky household winning the Grand Prize Give-Away of a Family Weekend at the Tradewinds.

$5 donations keeps flags flying

Lithia, Florida -- Randall Middle School needs your help to honor victims from September 11.  The school provides a tribute on Patriots Day by decorating the front lawn with over 2,000 laminated markers, personalized with the names of each 9/11 victims.  

The individual tribute markers are then placed in a pattern that collectively reflect the shape of the American Flag.  

This year, the funding for the project has been cut, and teacher Kristy Verdi is hoping you can help by donating $5.

Avon Park, Florida-- The South Florida State College website says the Summer term's last day of classes is Tuesday, July 31. 

School's really out for Summer,  but only for a short while; Fall classes begin Wednesday, August 22.

Sebring, Florida-- South Florida State College (SFSC), formerly known as South Florida Community College, will offer a new service to those in need of their GED.

Beginning July 30, those in need can take the GED test on a computer at the SFSC testing center.

Hillsborough to train nearly 700 new public school teachers

Tampa, Florida-- Hillsborough County Public Schools representatives have announced that the county has hired approximately 700 new public school teachers for the county. 

These teachers will receive a four-day training regarding the school district's vision, mission and goals beginning next Monday, July 23. 

It's Summer now, but back-to-school season is right around the corner, and Hillsborough County will be prepared!

Additional college sponsored Merit Scholarship winners named

 

Polk County, Florida-- The National Merit Scholarship Corporation recently named additional College-Sponsored Merit Scholarship winners. Some 2011-2012 senior winners included: Bartow IB’s Emily Lubin and Winter Haven High School’s Mackenzie Nettlow. Mackenzie Nettlow will attend Rice University in Houston, Texas where she hopes to study medicine. Emily Lubin will head to New Orleans, Louisiana to attend Tulane University. She will study law.

South Florida State College (SFSC) students Eric Bautista and Orvanel Valdez recently represented SFSC at the Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) Future Business Leaders of America National Leadership Conference in San Antonio, Texas, June 23-27, where they placed eighth in the nation in the Financial Services event.
