Ybor mural moves one step closer to reality

Tampa, FL -- A mural, that if completed will be the city's largest, has taken a big step closer towards becoming reality. Officials with the Adamo Drive Mural Project say financing is now in place for the proposed 370-foot long by 35-foot tall picture.

On Thursday, Oct. 20, final financing for the public-private Adamo Drive Mural project was approved by the Tampa City Council.

Tampa, FL -- The City of Tampa is looking to re-energize one of its downtown historic buildings by turning it into a luxury hotel and has released a Request for Proposals (RFP) for all interested parties. 

The RFP is for the acquisition (long-term lease) and redevelopment of the Classic Federal Courthouse, located on North Florida Avenue in the heart of the Central Business District. The RFP specifically targets a hotel development.

Tampa, FL -- The Hillsborough County Code Enforcement demolished a burned and abandoned apartment complex today that code officials said had been vandalized and used by vagrants.

The complex was located at 1304 E. 136th St. in the USF area.

The new complex is nearing construction completion and leases are being signed for new residents.

This new apartment complex is near the new Sweetbay supermarket on Bruce B Downs Blvd near County Line Rd.

Police investigate overnight arson in Ybor

Tampa, FL -- Multiple units from Tampa Fire Rescue responded to an overnight fire at 1412 E. 21st Ave in Ybor City late Sunday into Monday morning.

The call came in at 12:02 a.m. and crews where on scene within five minutes. It took firefighters almost 40 minutes to get the fire under control.

No injuries where reported but according to Tampa Fire Marshal Investigator Mike Zurla the fire was set intentionally.

Investigator Zurla says that the investigation as to who may have started this fire is still underway.

Local company helps with first home in new Habitat for Humanity community

Local company helps with first home in new Habitat for Humanity community

Tampa, FL -- Employees of Gerdau, a global steel company with a large office in Tampa, will participate in a wall-raising ceremony for the first home in Providence Pointe, the newest Habitat for Humanity of Hillsborough County community, this Saturday, July 16.

The Ashford’s, the organization’s newest homeowner family, will attend the event, which begins at 9 a.m. at 8425 Radio Lane in Tampa. Volunteers from Gerdau will continue to work on the home throughout the day.

The Ashford family consists of Patricia, a single mother who works for Hillsborough Area Regional Transit, and her three daughters. Patricia says she is excited about owning a home for the first time. “Owning a home means freedom and independence. I want something that I can leave my family.”

Patricia learned about Habitat Hillsborough through helping her sister, Mable Ashford, who built and purchased a home with Habitat in 1999.
