Library gets room to expand

Plant City, FL -- A dance studio is booking a new performance.

The city has agreed to buy Jackie's Dance Theater on North Wheeler Street to eventually make way for an expansion of the Bruton Memorial Library.

The city doesn't have any immediate plans to start the expansion project but decided to buy the building since the owners are willing to sell it for the appraised value of $188,500.

The building is one of three the city needs to acquire so it can expand the library.

Return of the cross

Return of the cross

Plant City, FL -- For many years an illuminated cross sat on top of the Springhead United Methodist Church. It was somewhat of a landmark for locals.

But after suffering a number of lightning strikes the church let it go dark. That's because the cross became too expensive to keep repairing it.

But now the spark is returning to the church on Sparkman Road.

The church is putting up a new cross that will use fiber optics to keep it lit.
