Tampa, Florida --The John F. Germany Public Library at 900 N. Ashley Drive in downtown Tampa is sponsoring Silly Saturday on Sept. 3 at 2 p.m.

The library says it is a great way to cure those back-to-school blues at the library with silly stories, crazy crafts and goofy games sure to lift the spirits.

Gibsonton, FL -- The Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department is conducting a prescribed burn today, Aug. 23 at Golden Aster Scrub Nature Preserve, 12181 East Bay Road in Gibsonton.

The burn will last one day. The purpose of the burn is Pine Flatwoods maintenance and public safety.

Plant City, FL -- The boardwalk and main observation tower in the Edward Medard Park, 6140 Turkey Creek Road in Plant City, will be closed to the public from Aug. 8 – Oct. 15 due to a reconstruction and renovation project.

Thonotosassa, FL -- The Southwest Florida Water Management District will be conducting “controlled, prescribed burns” during August and September on the District’s Flatwoods Park in Hillsborough County.

Approximately 200 acres of land will be burned in small, manageable units. The scheduled, managed burns are a part of routine maintenance of lands managed by the District.

Some entrances or trails at Flatwoods Park may be temporarily closed on weekdays during August and September to facilitate the safe execution of prescribed burns.

Riverview, Florida - The community is invited out to share stories about their culture and tradition.

Tuesday, August 2 from 3 p.m. until 4 p.m. children and families are encouraged to meet in the community room of the Riverview Branch Library which is located at 10509 Riverview Drive in Riverview.

Organizers say all cultures around the world have stories and fairy tales that they share with one another. Participants will explore those traditional tales with fun activities, great music, and creative crafts.

Wimauma, FL -- The Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department is conducting a prescribed burn today, Thursday, July 21 at Upper Little Manatee River Preserve, 2547 Leonard Lee Road  in Wimauma.

The burn will last one day. The purpose of the burn is for ecological site management.
