Here's what's closed in Hillsborough County for Veterans Day

The majority of Hillsborough County offices and facilities will be closed on Friday, Nov. 11, in observance of Veterans Day.

Closed facilities include the administrative offices of County government, neighborhood service centers, all libraries, all County-operated Head Start/Early Head Start Centers, senior centers and nutrition sites.

Ruskin, Florida - A free puppet show titled "The Velveteen Rabbit" is being performed at the SouthShore Regional Library at 15816 Beth Shields Way in Ruskin.

The show is for children and families and is being held on Tuesday, Nov. 8 and Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 10:30 a.m.

The show is adapted from the book by Margery Williams. Organizer say "What is real?" asks the Velveteen Rabbit. The answer comes in a powerful message about love that children cherish.

The SouthShore Regional Library is located at 15816 Beth Shields Way in Ruskin.

Riverview, Florida - A free drawing class is being offered for adults at the Riverview Branch Library located at 10509 Riverview Drive in Riverview.

The class titled "Drawing With Colored Pens And Ink" is on Monday, Nov. 7 at 6 p.m.

Art educator Minnette Webster will introduce colored pen and ink techniques in this program. Art supplies will be provided too.

There's only room for 20 people so organizers say you should register at the Riverview Branch Library Reference Desk.

Toddler time & story time at Ruskin Library Tuesday

Ruskin, Florida - Two toddler time events are being held at the SouthShore Regional Library at 15816 Beth Shields Way in Ruskin on Tuesday, Oct. 25.

The events are for children ages 18 - 36 months old and their caregivers. There will be stories, fingerplays, songs and interactive activities. The program lasts for 20 minutes and is free.

Organizers say it highlights early literacy skills and encourages reading readiness. There are two events on Tuesday. One is from 10:05 a.m. until 10:25 a.m. The other is from 10:35 a.m. until 10:55 am.

Electric vehicle charging stations coming to downtown

Tampa, Florida -- Mayor Bob Buckhorn will be joined by community leaders to unveil the latest Parking Division initiative - electric vehicle charging stations on Oct. 12.

As part of Coulomb Technologies' expansion of its $37 million ChargePoint America program into six new U.S. cities, the City of Tampa applied for and received 10 electric vehicle charging stations at no cost to the City.

In exchange for the receipt and installation of the charging stations, the City of Tampa will be participating in a Department of Energy grant monitoring program through December 2013.

Advisory lifted for Ben T. Davis Beach

Tampa, FL -- The Health Advisory issued for Ben T. Davis Beach on Sept. 29 as a precautionary measure due to a sewage line break in the area has been lifted.

According to the Hillsborough County Health Department, initial and follow-up testing has been satisfactory based on the marine water bacterial indicator results as recommended by the EPA.

Advisory for 3 Tampa area beaches lifted

Tampa, FL -- The health advisory that was issued on Sept. 9 for Picnic Island Beach, Bahia Beach and Davis Island Beach was lifted on Wednesday, Sept. 14.

According to the Hillsborough County Health Department, follow-up testing came back with satisfactory levels based on marine water bacterial indicator results as recommended by the EPA.

Initial sampling performed on Sept. 6 showed high levels of enterococci bacteria which caused a potential health risk to the public.
