Craigslist 101 class being held at Ruskin library

Ruskin, Florida -- Adults can learn how to become a member, browse, search, and buy items on Craigslist at the Ruskin Branch library at 26 Dickman Drive Southeast in Ruskin on Thursday, Feb. 2.

Basic mouse and keyboarding skills are recommended.

The class is being held in the Pauline Dickman Lawler Community Room from 3 to 3:30 p.m. Then from 3:45 to 4:30 p.m. participants can take another class to learn how to create a listing, and sell items on Craigslist.

Downtown library closed this Saturday

Tampa, Florida --If you are planning to go to the library in Downtown Tampa this Saturday, make other plans.

The John F. Germany Public Library, 900 N. Ashley Drive in Tampa, will be closed on Saturday, Jan. 28 due to the Gasparilla events scheduled for downtown Tampa. The library will be open normal hours on Sunday.

Other libraries in Hillsborough County will operate on their normal Saturday hours.

Medard Reservoir reopens Dec. 31; no harvest of sport fish, catfish allowed yet

Plant City, FL -- Florida Fish & Wildlife has announced the Edward Medard Reservoir in Plant City, a popular destination for local freshwater anglers, will reopen to boating and fishing on Dec. 31.

FWC said the opening is welcome news to anglers, but sport fish and catfish may not be harvested because their numbers have not recovered sufficiently from the recent draining of the lake for maintenance.

Ruskin, Florida -- If you have ever wanted to learn how to read eBooks, now is your chance.

A demonstration is being held at the SouthShore Regional Library at 15816 Beth Shields Way in Ruskin on Thursday, Dec. 29 from 12:15 p.m. until 2:30 p.m.

The demonstration will include the Overdrive Media Console and Adobe Digital Editions. Organizers say participants will learn how to check out and download eBooks to their PC or eReader too.

Prescribed burn today at nature preserve

Gibsonton, FL -- The Florida Forest Service, in cooperation with the Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department, is conducting a prescribed burn today, Dec. 20 at Golden Aster Scrub Nature Preserve, 12181 East Bay Road in Gibsonton.

The burn will last one day. The purpose of the burn is for pine flatwoods maintenance and public safety.

Public meeting to discuss FishHawk Sports Complex Expansion and park funds

Lithia, FL -- Public input is needed on plans to expand the FishHawk Sports Complex and discuss FishHawk Community Park Funds at a public meeting on Dec. 14.

The county says the budget for Fishhawk Sports Complex Expansion is approximately $2.8 million and is funded through Parks Impact Fees. The project would accommodate expansion of soccer and football programs with up to five additional fields, and it would support infrastructure such as utilities, parking, storm water retention, and ancillary buildings.

The event is Sunday, Dec. 4 at 3 p.m. and it's free. It's for grades K-5.
