Celebration of new art display in Ruskin

Ruskin, Florida - The public is invited to the SouthShore Regional Library in Ruskin on Tuesday, May 22 at 10 a.m. to celebrate and enjoy newly-installed public art in the library's outdoor plaza.

Organizers say the public art, Sandpiper Pavilions by Koryn Rolstad, defines activity space in the James J. Harkins IV Plaza.

Sandpiper Pavilions features two shade pavilions facing each other across open space, ornamented with water drop patterns sandblasted into the ground paving.

Learn about the Seminole War in Ruskin Saturday

Ruskin, Florida -- You can learn about the Seminole War at the SouthShore Regional Library in Ruskin on Saturday, May 19 at 1:30 p.m.

Jerry Morris, living history interpreter and co-author of "Fort King Road: Then and Now", will discuss Florida's second Seminole War with examples of an 1835 United States soldier's uniform, an 1816 flint lock musket, and other soldier equipment and rations.

Land use hearing scheduled at county center

Tampa, Florida -- If you are concerned about the way that Hillsborough County allows developers to use land, you'll want to be at the Land Use Hearing next week.

A Land Use Hearing Officer will hold a hearing on Monday, May 14 at 1:30 p.m. in the 2nd Floor Boardroom of County Center, 601 E. Kennedy Blvd., in downtown Tampa.

Lane Closure: northbound I-75 at Bruce B. Downs

 

Tampa, Florida -- Accordig to a release from the Florida Department of Transportation, one lane will be closed on northbound I-75 in the Bruce B. Downs Boulevard (Exit 270) interchange area from 9:30 p.m. Sunday, April 22 to 6 a.m. Monday, April 23.

By Monday morning, both northbound lanes will be shifted to the temporary bridge over Bruce B. Downs Boulevard. All interchange ramps will remain open.

Traffic is expected to use the temporary bridge for about two years. The speed limit on the bridge will be reduced to 55 miles-per-hour.

Temple Terrace, Florida -- What began as a small, one-room collection of hand-me-down books has grown into one of the busiest public libraries in Hillsborough County, with more than 250,000 visitors annually.

The Temple Terrace Public Library is celebrating its 50th anniversary as part of National Library Week (April 8-14). The library will host an Anniversary Reception on Monday, April 9 with guest speakers, exhibits, refreshments, dignitaries, good friends and wonderful stories of years gone by.

Lithia, Florida -- The FishHawk Ranch community has announced the Tampa-Hillsborough County Public Library Board is working with Newland Communities to follow-up on concerns about the proposed site for a library in the FishHawk area, at the south-west corner of the FishHawk Sports Complex, located on the north side of FishHawk Boulevard.
