Tampa, FL -- Children from 2 to 5 years of age will have a new play area to take advantage of next week.

Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio and members of the Tampa City Council will be on hand Monday, March 14 to cut the ribbon on the new playground at New Tampa Community Park.

The ceremony will take place at 3:30 p.m.

This playground will feature the WeeVos play structure. WeeVos play equipment promotes growth and development for young kids in five key areas: physical, cognitive, sensory/motor, emotional/social and language.

Some additional improvements to the park have been completed as well.

The installation of a cutting-edge synthetic turf made of recycled tires called Forever Turf is in the playground as well as custom shade structures.

These shade structures cover key play areas and will prevent harmful effects from the sun's UV rays. Drainage and lightning were also added.

Total cost for the project was $178,000 dollars and was funded through a Community Investment bond. New Tampa Community Park is located at 17302 Commerce Blvd.
