Tampa, FL -- Mayor Bob Buckhorn will host a video Facebook town hall meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 30 from 7 - 7:45 p.m. 

The virtual meeting will focus on the FY2012 budget.  Citizens are encouraged to sign on and submit questions live during the videocast. 

Questions can be submitted both prior to and during the event via Facebook, Twitter, or email.

Deadline extended for 2011 Government Leadership University

Hillsborough County, FL -- The deadline to sign-up for Hillsborough County’s 2011 Government Leadership University has been extended to Friday, Sept. 2, at 5 p.m. 

The free 10-week GLU course gives you insight on how your County government works. Those interested in learning more about Hillsborough County government leadership, unraveling government red tape, and establishing relationships with department directors and staff are encouraged to apply.

Class sessions will be held every Tuesday from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m., from Sept. 13 – Nov. 15.

Tampa, FL -- United States Senator and two-term Florida Governor Bob Graham kicks off the 2011-12 season of Florida Conversations at the Tampa Bay History Center on Tuesday, Aug. 30 at 6:30 p.m.

Florida Conversations features authors and presenters covering a variety of Florida topics including politics, fiction, history and environmental issues and much more. The sessions are free and open to the public.

Senator Bob Graham’s new novel, Keys to the Kingdom, is a thriller ripped from today's headlines and infused with the insight only Graham, former Chairman of the Senate's Select Committee on Intelligence, could provide.

Citizen Advisory Committee holds monthly meeting

Tampa, Florida --The Citizens Advisory Committee will hold its regular monthly meeting Friday, Aug. 26, from 8:30 - 11:30 a.m.

The meeting will be held on the 18th Floor of County Center, in the Planning Commission Boardroom, 601 E. Kennedy Blvd., in downtown Tampa.

This Committee serves in an advisory capacity to the Board of County Commissioners on general issues and those specified by the Board.

Mayoral candidate Stuart Mackey hosts Family Movie Night

Riverview, FL -- On Saturday, Aug. 27, Honorary Mayor of Riverview Candidate Stuart Mackey is hosting a fundraising event to benefit his campaign as well as his elected charity, LifeCare of Brandon.

There will be a showing of the 2010's Shrek Forever After: The Final Chapter with popcorn, candy, drinks, raffles and more available at the event.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the movie starts at 6 p.m.

Public meeting to discuss Platt Street Bridge closure

Tampa, FL -- Join Hillsborough County and the City of Tampa for a Community Information Open House Meeting on Monday, Aug. 22, to discuss the upcoming temporary closure of the Platt Street Bridge. The Open House will start at 6 p.m.

At the Open House, citizens will be able to hear a briefing and visit information stations to find alternate commuting options and to provide comment.

The Bridge closure is scheduled to start in October 2011 and is scheduled to last 105 days. The closure is necessary as part of the required rehabilitation of the bridge to allow the contractor to open the drawbridge and perform replacement work on its components.

Magistrate hears water violation appeals

Tampa, Florida --The Hillsborough County Code Enforcement Special Magistrate for water enforcement is scheduled to meet Monday, Aug. 22 at 9 a.m. in the 2nd Floor Boardroom at County Center, 601 E. Kennedy Blvd. in downtown Tampa.

The Special Magistrate is authorized to hear violations concerning all codes and ordinances of Hillsborough County in order to maintain health and safety standards.

Any person who decides to appeal the decision of the Code Enforcement Special Magistrate with respect to any matter considered at this meeting will need a record of the proceedings, and for such purposes, may need to ensure that a verbatim record of the proceedings is made, which includes the testimony and evidence upon which the appeal is based.
