EPC launches new online permit application tracker

The Environmental Protection Commission of Hillsborough County (EPC) has launched an online tool that allows interested parties to find out the status of environmental permit applications submitted to EPC for review.

EPC handles more than 1,000 requests for 30 different types of permits that impact our environment each year.

Commissioners seek applicants for Citizen Boards & Councils

Hillsborough County, FL -- Hillsborough County Commissioners are looking for residents to serve on several County citizen advisory boards and councils.

Residents interested in seeking appointment must be registered voters in Hillsborough County.  These are voluntary positions, and members serve without compensation. Applicants may apply to more than one board, but may only serve on one board at a time.

The deadline for applying is Nov. 3. Appointments will be scheduled for a meeting of the Board of County Commissioners in December.

Supervisor of Elections opens satellite office in South Shore

The new Supervisor of Elections South Shore Office is located at 10439 Gibsonton Drive in Riverview (in the Lowe's Shopping Center on the corner of US Hwy 301 S and Gibsonton Drive) and opened on Oct. 3, 2011. 

This satellite office will help support the early voting sites.  Residents may register to vote, request a Vote By Mail ballot, update information like party affiliation, name and address.  This site will also act as a drop off point for these ballots.  Please stop by and welcome them to the community.

Tampa, Florida --The Hillsborough County Code Enforcement Board will meet Friday, Oct. 14 at 9 a.m. in the 2nd Floor Boardroom of County Center, 601 E. Kennedy Blvd. in downtown Tampa.

The Board is authorized to hear violations concerning all codes and ordinances of Hillsborough County in order to maintain health and safety standards.

Tampa, Florida - If you're a student trying to earn a degree in anthropology or even journalism Governor Rick Scott says don't bother.

He says if the state is to compete for the best jobs he wants students focusing on science, engineering and math. Governor Scott says Florida needs more graduates in high tech fields so companies will consider relocating to the sunshine state.

But he's being criticized for his idea to shift tax dollars away from liberal arts majors like anthropology and journalism.

Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney has come under fire for being a Mormon and his religion has even been called a cult.

The issue exploded over the weekend when the pastor of a Dallas church, Robert Jeffress, introduced Governor Rick Perry at the Values Voter Summit by saying, "He is a genuine follower of Jesus Christ." The summit is an annual gathering of evangelicals and other social conservatives.
