Hillsborough County, FL -- Hillsborough County Animal Services has partnered with Best Friends Animal Society for "Back in Black!" The awareness campaign puts a spotlight on over-looked but deserving black dogs and cats.

For a limited time, all black (and mostly black) pets will be offered at half-price adoption fees to include the full complement of services: spaying/neutering, vaccinations, micro-chips with registration, veterinary health check, and Hillsborough County tag. 

Jeremy also needs your help. Hillsborough County Animal Services need donations to help pay for Jeremy's treatment for heartworm. You can also adopt Jeremy for half-off during the event! His animal ID#1367503.

Local women's club needs supplies for needy animals

Temple Terrace, FL - Members of the Temple Terrace Junior Women's Club will be distributing brown paper collection bags to 1,000 area homes on Oct. 5 for a pet supply drive to benefit the Humane Society of Tampa Bay.

The Juniors are asking for residents to fill the bags with pet supplies and leave the bags near their mailboxes for collection on Saturday, Oct. 8 by 10 a.m.

There are many items that the Humane Society of Tampa Bay must purchase frequently that enable them to care for homeless pets every day. They are requesting the following items:

Hillsborough County, FL -- Hillsborough County Animal Services is holding its month of August Bark-A-Thon featuring half off all dog adoptions for pups 6 months and up.

Plus, adult cats one year and older are still on special for $39 (all inclusive).

Pit Bull Ambassadors and dogs in the A.D.O.P.T. program (obedience training class) are being offered at a special rescue fee of $10.

Tampa, Florida - Hillsborough County Animal Services hosted an animal disaster training event at their facility at 440 Falkenburg Road North in Tampa on Sunday.

In recent years, Hillsborough County Animal Services has deployed for rescue and recovery of animals for a variety of named storms, including Hurricanes Charley, Floyd, Katrina, and Wilma.

With the most active months of the 2011 hurricane season ahead, Hillsborough County Animal Services hosted Sunday's event to recruit volunteers to assist at emergency pet shelters in the event of local disasters whether the disasters are natural or man-made.

The theme of bay area community preparedness for animals is: Because the ENTIRE family matters!

A special one-day course titled Awareness Level Emergency Sheltering is scheduled for Sunday, July 31, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the Hillsborough County Animal Services facility located at 440 Falkenburg Road, North in Tampa. The course is open to adults 18 years and older, and space is limited.

$10 spay and neuter event in Ruskin Saturday!

Ruskin, Florida -- Operation Feline Fix or (OFF) is a low cost spay/neuter clinic conducted by Feline Folks with veterinarian Dr. Hal Ott, DVM.

Cat owners can get their cat or kitten spayed or neutered for just $10 on Saturday, July 16.

Cats must be brought to the clinic in humane traps or carriers though and no soft side carriers are allowed. Kittens may come in separate carriers.
