Popular pet program to resume in Hillsborough County

Hillsborough County, FL -- The Hillsborough County Spay/Neuter Voucher Program for pet owners on income assistance came back on July 1.

Hillsborough County Animal Services temporarily stopped issuing new vouchers in order to assess available funding a few weeks ago.

Under the program, residents of Hillsborough County who meet qualifying guidelines may obtain sterilization surgery for their owned pets from dozens of participating clinics and veterinarians.  Residents must supply an approved voucher and $10 co-payment for service which includes a rabies vaccination and pet registration tag.

Application forms, program guidelines, suggested documentation needed for application approval, and a list of participating veterinary clinics are all listed on the County website.

The voucher applications are also available at Hillsborough County Animal Services, located at 440 Falkenburg Road, N. in Tampa.

Hillsborough County, FL -- Fireworks are frightening to most four-legged residents, and Independence Day can also be a nightmare for first-responders called to rescue pets in distress.

Hillsborough County Animal Services reminds pet owners to be compassionate and proactive in protecting defenseless animals during the festive 4th of July fireworks celebration.

Pets often slip away during holiday gatherings but the 4th of July is undeniably the worst holiday for animals.  Loud pops, booms and unpredictable flashes of light assault the senses of pets and may induce the classic fight-or-flight instinct.

It is not uncommon for otherwise friendly animals to become aggressive when fearful or injured, and pets fleeing in fear are more likely to be hit by cars.

Hillsborough County Animal Services offers the following Top 10 Tips to protect pets and people:

Animal clinic at risk to lose county funding

Animal clinic at risk to lose county funding

Hillsborough County, FL -- The ACT Spay/Neuter Clinic needs public support to urge the Hillsborough County Commissioners to continue funding the Spay/Neuter Voucher Program.

Veterinary clinics were recently informed that the voucher program has been temporarily discontinued and that no new applications are being accepted.

The funding is at risk of being taken away indefinitely and ACT is asking for public support to make sure that doesn’t happen.

The direct recipients of this program are the poor residents of our community (families, elderly, kids). They are the people who have a hard time putting food on their table.  Using precious dollars to get their pets fixed is simply not an option for most.
