Make-A-Wish gives musical medicine

Odessa, FL -- When Joe Ginem, 20, plays his violin, he gets lost in the music. "You find yourself in another world," he says.

But some harsh realities of the real world are never farther away than his bow arm.

"From here to here is all titanium," he says pointing from his shoulder to elbow. When Joe was 15, an extremely rare form of bone cancer nearly took not only his arm, but his life.

Tough times for just a kid. "You realize you can go at anytime," Ginem says, his voice cracking with emotion.

Tampa, FL -- Former Buccaneer All-Pro linebacker Derrick Brooks, was named President of the Tampa Bay Storm Arena Football League team.  His former Buc teammate, Jeff Gooch, was named Vice President of Football Operations.


As president, Brooks will direct all aspects of the Storm's business and football operations.  Head Coach Dave Ewart and assistants John Kaleo, Donnie Abraham and Nyle Wiren will remain with the team.

Riverview, FL -- Volunteers have always served important roles at LifePath Hospice. In fact, volunteers founded the organization in 1983 and have been a vital part of the organization ever since.

On Saturday, April 16, LifePath Hospice will honor its ranks of hard-working volunteers at a Volunteer Appreciation luncheon at The Cambridge Club on the campus of The Bridges retirement community.

At the 11 a.m. celebration, LifePath Hospice will recognize a special group of 12 volunteers as “Emeritus Volunteers.”

Plant City, FL -- A Dowdell Magnet School teacher is being honored for bringing science to life for her students.

Four teachers, who come from all over Florida, were chosen by Florida Agriculture in the Classroom as winners of the 2011 Excellence in Teaching about Agriculture Award.

Susan Ferrell, lead teacher for the school's magnet program, is one of them.

Plant City, FL -- Durant High School teacher Ulysses “Butch” Valdes III will be honored as the Southern District High School Physical Education Teacher of the Year by the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) at its national convention in San Diego, California on March 29 – April 1.

The Southern District represents a 13-state area from Virginia to Texas.

The award is given in recognition of outstanding teaching performance at the high school level and the ability to motivate today's youth to participate in a lifetime of physical activity.

Valrico, FL -- A 29-year-old single mother of three is now the proud owner of a new car.


Monday, Head Coach Raheem Morris, Buccaneers cheerleaders and Captain Fear surprised 29-year-old Christina Salatino at her Valrico job.


Salantino won the new car through the Buccaneers' second annual "Road to Success" program.
