Gavin Degraw to perform at the Ritz Ybor

Tampa, FL - Gavin Degraw will be performing his only solo concert in Florida at the Ritz Ybor. The concert is scheduled for June 2 and general admission tickets are $20.

The RITZ Ybor presents Gavin Degraw's only Florida solo concert at The RITZ Ybor on Thursday, June 2 where special guest Mike Sanchez will be the opening act.

Gavin Degraw is an American singer-songwriter and musician known for his hit-singles "I Don't Want to Be," "Chariot," "In Love with a Girl," "We Belong Together," and "Follow Through." He will be touring the U.S. as a supporting/opening act for Maroon 5 and Train over July and August 2011.

Gavin's fourth studio album called "Sweeter" will be released in early August, while the album's first single "Not Over You" will be released digitally in June 2011.

Scott appoints three to USF Board of Trustees

Scott appoints three to USF Board of Trustees

Governor Rick Scott announced the reappointments of John B. Ramil and Debbie N. Sembler and the appointment of Stephen J. Mitchell to the Board of Trustees, University of South Florida, on Friday, May 20.

Ramil, 55, of Tampa, is the president and chief executive officer of TECO Energy Inc.  He is reappointed for a term beginning May 20, 2011, and ending January 6, 2016.

Sembler, 54, of Pinellas Park, is a community volunteer.  She is reappointed for a term beginning May 20, 2011, and ending January 6, 2016.

Mitchell, 68, of Tampa, is a partner with Squire Sanders and Dempsey LLP.  He succeeds Margarita Cancio and is appointed for a term beginning May 20, 2011, and ending January 6, 2016.

The appointments are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.

A problem-solver for families is honored

Wimauma, FL -- Marcela Estevez, Parent Liaison for RCMA Wimauma Academy, has received the Hillsborough County School District Parent Involvement Award for charter schools.

Estevez is a versatile problem-solver assigned to help the students’ families, many of whom are migrant farmworkers. The award recognizes Estevez for her outstanding contributions to parent and family involvement.

“Marcela is the heart and soul of our school,” Principal Mark Haggett said. “She is always available to discuss family matters that may affect student performance and attitude in the classroom.

Marcela accompanies parents to appointments that may require a translator.

Hillsborough Co. celebrates Older Americans Month

Ruskin, Florida -- Hillsborough County is celebrating Older Americans month with activities in Ruskin and Wimauma and throughout the county. 

May is Older American's Month, and Hillsborough County's Department of Family and Aging Services is joining the rest of the nation in celebrating and honoring our community's older adults.

This year's theme is Older Americans: Connecting the Community. Organizers say older adults are the roots from which our community grows.

Temple Terrace Clubs win Interaction Award

Temple Terrace, FL -- At the General Federation Women's Club (GFWC) Florida Fedration State Spring Board of Directors Covention in Orlando, the GFWC Temple Terrace Junior Woman's Club and the Temple Terrace Woman's Club won their second Judith B. Lutz General to Junior Club Interaction Award for two years in a row. 

The Temple Terrace Clubs won the honor over all clubs throughout the state of Florida.

GFWC is one of the world’s largest and oldest nonpartisan, nondenominational, women’s volunteer service organizations. GFWC Florida Federation Headquarters is located in Lakeland.

Silver Alert issued for missing Sun City man

Silver Alert issued for missing Sun City man

Sun City -- The Manatee Couty Sheriff's Office has issued a Silver Alert for a missing 88-year-old man who disappeared from a senior living facility in Sun City.

A nurse advised that Phil Phelps left the facility at 8:30 Sunday morning in his Grey 2004 Cadillac Deville with a Florida tag number of “K881HC”.

Phil was last seen at 1 p.m. Sunday at US 301 and Interstate 75 in Manatee County by FHP after he was involved in a minor traffic crash.  The car suffered only minor damage and he was last seen driving north on I-75.
