USF Professor’s Book Offers Most Advanced Look yet at Children Who Kill Their Parents

Tampa, Fla.-- A University of South Florida professor who is an expert on parricide – the act of murdering a parent or close relative – has published a new book on the topic, which was thrust into the national spotlight in December following the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.

Lithia, Florida -- The FishHawk Community Garden Club meets monthly as a group where residents come together to work on having a community garden in the area. 

The club is currently in the planning stage and encourage all who are interested to join. The club meets in the theatre at the Osprey Club the first Tuesday of each month.

NOTE: The January meeting only will be held on the second Tuesday of the month.

Brandon woman wins big at Seminole Hard Rock

Tampa, Florida -- One Brandon woman got an unexpected present on Christmas night when she won over $125,000 playing a game at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tampa.

The Casino announced in a press release on Dec. 27 that Janet T. won the $127,342.13 prize playing Bonus Spin Progressive Blackjack game which was the first and only largest Bonus Spin Progressive Blackjack hit in the nation! It was also the first at Seminole Hard Rock Tampa's casino since the new games were installed back in June during the expansion.

'Shedding for the Wedding" author to sign books at Planet Smoothie

Tampa, FL-- SJ Nieusma, the North Port, Florida author of 'Shedding for the Wedding' will be in Tampa on December 22 to sign books at a local Planet Smoothie. 

Her book focuses on how brides-to-be can get in shape for their big day without sacrificing their normal daily routine.

According to a release about the book signing, Nieusma is a former bride-to-be and personal trainer. Having experienced the two, she created a fast, fun, and effective weight-loss program that takes little time and produces results.

Free Holiday Dinner for Riverview Seniors

Tampa, FL-- For the past 10 years, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has partnered with Target, Riverview High School and East Bay High School to feed over 500 Riverview seniors at the International Independent Showmen's Association.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office organizes the event, Target donates all of the food and the high school culinary teams prepare and serve the food at the event.

This year, students will cook over 25 turkeys, 10 gallons of gravy, hundreds of pounds of potatoes, stuffing and green beans, and hundreds of cookies.
