Burt is back in the Bay area and fans are raving over Reynolds

Tampa, Fl - They lined the street to get a glimpse of a living legend.

The one and only Burt Reynolds came to the Tampa Theater to raise money for charity.

Fans came from across the Bay aching for an autograph.

Lynda Keever of St. Pete got one.  "That's a picture of he and I about 15 years ago," she gushed.

She had to settle for a signature on the picture instead of his sexy spread in Cosmopolitan magazine of which she had an original copy.

But Burt means more than stardom.  "It doesn't matter how old he is, he is the same caring, warm celebrity.  He's a great man," said Keever.

As much as the older folks idolize this man, so do the younger ones as they came to the movie screening donned in black handle-bar mustaches.

"I love this area, I always have," Burt Reynolds told 10 News.

His favorite memory here?

"I scored my first college touchdown against the University of Tampa here when I was playing for Florida State," he said.

"He's really cared what happens in Florida, not just to his team, but he comes to the Bucs games.  He was at the Bandits games," sad Keever.

This night is their chance to see "Smokey and the Bandit" for the first time in a long time on the big screen of the Tampa Theater.

Jeff Glover said, "Ever since I was the kid, he was just the greatest thing ever and I'm just so excited.  It is the first time I've ever gotten to see him."
