Deputies search for man who tried abduct police officer's wife

Tampa, Florida-- New surveillance video released Thursday shows a suspect pacing for about 25 minutes outside a busy Bealls Department Store, before allegedly attacking the wife of a Tampa police officer in the parking lot.

Major John Newman's wife says around 6:30 Wednesday night, the man snuck up behind her, put something to her back, grabbed her, and warned her not to say anything.

"She said she's never seen him.  He was a total stranger," Maj. Newman explained.

His wife said in the attack, at the store near the intersection of Dale Mabry and Mapledale, the suspect was only after her, not her purse.

"Now I know how the victim feels.  I didn't like it at all," Newman said.

Hit and run victim not happy with plea deal

Hit and run victim not happy with plea deal

Tampa, Florida --  On Tuesday, Andres Trujillo pleaded guilty to two counts of leaving the scene of an accident, one with an injury and another with a death.

Police say Trujillo admitted to his involvement of a hit and run crash on Kennedy Boulevard that killed UT student Erik Nicoletti and severely injured his friend, 20-year-old Cree Riley.

He will serve 15 years in prison, followed by 15 years probation under the terms of the plea deal.

It's not the outcome Riley had hoped for.

"I'm kind of dumbfounded by the whole situation," Riley told 10 News from her home in Pennsylvania.

She was visiting a friend in Tampa in November of 2009 when she met Nicoletti.  The two were walking with a group of friends to get food when they were hit by the car driven by Trujillo.

He later ditched the car, but turned himself in after police found his vehicle and traced it back to him.

Working for Jesus while working for the city

Working for Jesus while working for the city

Tampa, Florida -- It is a construction company in Thonotosassa that wears its religious beliefs out in the open.  Dallas One Construction and Development  also hangs tags saying its purpose is "to glorify God with the most excellent products, so our Lord Jesus might say, 'Well done good and faithful servant.'"

Tampa City Attorney Chip Fletcher says the company is like anyone else in professing their faith and it is not the roll of the city to deny that.

However, Fletcher admits some have questioned the fact Dallas One Construction hangs the tags while they do contract work for the city.

Fletcher says it's not the first time the issue has come to the attention of the city. He says the city looked at the flier originally, and the company said it was doing it on its own time.

Tampa Grinch steals gifts, Christmas tree

Tampa, Florida -- Tampa Police are looking for a real-life Grinch who made off with a family's Christmas presents... and even their Christmas tree!

Police say that after a day of Christmas shopping for her five kids at an Orlando outlet mall, 27-year-old Ana Perez dropped the presents off at her home on East River Cove Street.

Perez just began renting the house and has not yet moved in; she left the presents there so her children would not see them. The following day while her kids were out, Perez returned to wrap the presents, only to discover they were all missing.

Police believe the thief entered the house through an unlocked window overnight, and took the presents as well as the Christmas tree.

Tampa police are now collecting gifts for the family. They can be dropped off at 9330 North 30th Street in Tampa, and police will make sure they get to the family for Christmas.

Dickens was cut in the throat area, and Tolson fled the scene on a bicycle.  Deputies were able to arrest Tolson without incident in the area of Gibsonton Drive and Interstate 75, and recovered the knife.
