New program offers crime-free housing


Tampa, FL - The Tampa Police Department is working hard to prevent neighborhood crime. Officers are teaming up with property managers to keep you safe with the Crime Free Multi-Housing Program.

Meridian Pointe Apartments is the first complex to complete the certification process. This involves a police seminar, complex safety enhancements, improving outside lighting and installing peep holes.

More locations will complete the certification process soon.


Disturbing new evidence in Avila arson


Tampa, Florida -- New information in the Avila arson investigation is beginning to paint a chilling picture.

On Sunday, surveillance video from Phantom Fireworks on Fowler Avenue shows Darrin Campbell buying $600 worth of fireworks which investigators confirmed were scattered throughout the Avila home.

Campbell then made another curious purchase, according to police.

"We can confirm that he bought several gasoline cans on the same night," said Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office Col. Donna Lusczynski.
