DOT secretary talks Tampa transit


The U.S. Department of Transportation secretary stepped onto part of the all-new I-275 to talk transportation spending.

Secretary Anthony Foxx toured the Tampa Interstate Study." It's the name for all of the highway improvements in the Bay area, Including those along the Tampa stretch of I-275.

The secretary says he's urging Congress to pass a long-term transportation funding bill this year.

The Tampa Interstate Study is a $1.8 billion program, half of which is made up of federal funds.


Child hit by vehicle on Busch Blvd in Tampa


Tampa, Florida -- Tampa Fire Rescue says a child was struck by a car at 22nd Street and Busch Boulevard on Monday morning.

Tampa Police say the 12-year-old was running late for school and was running across the street, about 50 feet from a crosswalk, when the car hit the child.

The child was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.

Police: missing girl's death a homocide


Temple Terrace, Florida -- Temple Terrace police say they've identified the body found floating in the bay near the Courtney Campbell Causeway as 9-year-old Felecia Williams and they're classifying her death a homicide.

The Pinellas County Medical Examiner's Office released the results of an autopsy on Sunday confirming Williams' identity. A Missing Child Alert was issued for her on Friday, May 16 after she disappeared from the Doral Oaks apartment complex in Temple Terrace.

UPDATE: Missing mother turns herself in with child


Tampa, Florida -- UPDATE: Tampa Police say the mother who took off with her infant from St. Joseph's Children's Hospital against the doctor's advice has turned herself in.

Police say Teosha Blackmon's daughter, Constance, was checked into St. Joseph's Hospital for observation. The baby appears to be in good health, but hospital staff will determined when she will be released after the observation period.

Blackmon was arrested and charged with child neglect.

Parker Schenecker speaks on verdict, children's legacy


Tampa, Florida -- For retired Army Col. Parker Schenecker, it's a new day.

"Today's a real opportunity to finally look forward," said Schenecker.

No one hurt in overturned school bus crash


Northdale, Florida -- Authorities are investigating a school bus crash at N Dale Mabry at Calusa Trace Blvd in Northdale Friday afternoon.

The Hillsborough County School Board says a vehicle cut in front of the bus and the driver overcompensated losing control and flipping the bus on its the side.

The bus driver is out and is shaken up, but not hurt. No children were on the bus at the time of the crash.
