Florida gov. and Chris Christie to visit Tampa


Tampa, Florida -- Governor Rick Scott and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie will make a stop in Tampa on Thursday.

Scott will speak at Port Hendry at 2 p.m., highlighting $1 billion in port and trade infrastructure funding.

The visit is part of Governor Scott's "Let's Keep Florida Ports Working" tour.


Driver leaves injured couple in street after accident


Brandon, Florida -- "My wife is laying on the ground unconscious, and I tried to stand up to get to her to help her and I couldn't stand up because of my leg," said David Lindsay.

Community devastated by loss of Ben's Family Restaurant


Brandon, Florida -- The name Ben's Family Restaurant is just that -- a place where everyone in the community feels like part of the family.

On this day, a group hug was taking part outside.

"These people are sweethearts. Made you feel so at home, just like a family," said one of many customers who drove through the restaurant parking lot today, trying to get a glimpse of the damage.

Mother of murdered Tampa girl wants answers


Tampa, Florida -- The medical examiner confirmed 9-year-old Felecia Williams, who was reported missing Friday night, was murdered. Her body was discovered Saturday floating off the Courtney Campbell Causeway. Maria Diaz and a friend were fishing when they noticed something in the water.

"And then I said to Pedro, 'Look, I think that is a dead person floating in the water, and it's totally nude,'" said Diaz.

Family restaurant a total loss due to fire


Brandon, Florida -- A family restaurant is a total loss after a fire broke out in the building Friday evening.

Hillsborough Fire officials say calls came in to 911 dispatch about the fire around 5 p.m. When firefighters arrived, there was heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof of Ben's Family Restaurant on E. Brandon Blvd., which was occupied at the time.

People told firefighters that they heard things falling above them and then saw a lot of smoke coming from the ceiling. Everyone was able to get out safely.

Fight the bite: Protecting yourself and property from mosquitoes


Hillsborough County, Florida -- A warning is out from the Department of Health about a viral mosquito-borne disease. Three Floridians who recently traveled to the Caribbean contracted Chikungunya fever. One of them is a woman from Hillsborough County.

Dr. Carlos Hernandes spends his days squashing any problems you may have with mosquitoes.

"We expect a very active season," says Dr. Hernandes.
