Pilot killed in crash at Tampa Executive Airport

Tampa, Florida -- The pilot that died in today's airplane crash at Tampa Executive Airport has been identified as 54-year-old Ki L. Martin, from Wimauma, Florida.

Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office detectives are currently on the scene conducting a death investigation involving the crash of a small single engine plane at Tampa Executive Airport located at 6530 Tampa Executive Road in Tampa.

The following details of what happened is preliminary in nature and is subject to change as the investigation continues.

Just before 4:00 pm, a single engine plane was taking off from Tampa Executive Airport and had just went airborne when for an unknown reason the plane went down and crashed. The pilot was found by emergency personnel deceased inside the plane. There was a small amount of spillage of aviation fuel that was quickly contained by Hillsborough County Fire Rescue.

During the next several hours, detectives will be working with the NTSB, FAA and the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority to determine the cause of the crash.

No one else was on board.
