Carrollwood community remembers slain mother and kids

Carrollwood, Florida -- Just a few days away from Mother's Day, many people in the Carrollwood community are remembering the family of four who investigators say were killed in a murder suicide.

Kimberly Campbell, 51, worked out on a regular basis at Pure Barre.

"She used to come in and take the noon class -- noon to one. She used to come in and do her thing and she was just a nice sweet lady," said owner Shannon O'Brien.

"She was sweet -- very pleasant and always smiling," O'Brien said through tears. "I think everyone is just anxious to kind of find out a little more details…so I think everyone is just a little unsettled at this time."

The dance studio where the stay-at-home mom took her 16-year-old daughter Megan is located close by. Megan was in 9th grade and was involved in Jazz and dance classes at All American Dance Factory.

Terri Howell released a statement on Friday afternoon before a group of about 30 young dancers were due to show up.

"Our entire dance family is in shock as we process the devastating news of the death of our student Megan Campbell. Megan was involved at our studio for the past several years and was a helpful student that always had a smile on her face. She was especially witty and one of her teachers commented that she made him laugh every week. Megan will be greatly missed by her teachers and fellow dancers. We will honor her memory and her love for dance by setting up the Megan Campbell Memorial Dance Scholarship."

Back in the gated community where the Campbell family lived for 10 years before moving to Avila to be closer to Megan and her brother Colin's school, most neighbors didn't want to talk about the family that lived along Marblehead Drive. One neighbor didn't want to give her name, but said she would often see Darrin Campbell playing baseball with his son Colin, and from time to time he'd play with both kids in the front yard.

She says the family was quiet and always put up a lot of decorations for Christmas.
