Tampa, FL -- On Oct. 1, the City of Tampa activated its 23 intersection safety cameras as part of its Stop on Red Tampa safety program.
Drivers will now receive a warning notice without a fine issued to the vehicle's registered owner if caught making a red-light violation. Starting Nov. 1, vehicles caught making a red-light violation will be issued a $158 citation.
"These cameras are proven to help alter driver behavior and save lives," Mayor Bob Buckhorn said in a release. "Ultimately, Stop on Red Tampa will enhance road safety for our residents and make drivers think before proceeding through a red light and endangering lives."
