10 News presents American Diabetes Association with grant

Tampa, Florida -- 10 News gives more money to a good cause.

On Thursday, 10 Community's Kathryn Bursch presented the American Diabetes Association with a Gannett grant for $5,000. Gannett is the parent company of 10 News.

ADA spokesperson Heather Figueroa says the money will be used to boost education programs in the community, especially those involving children.

"The things that we support here locally include camps for children with diabetes and our family link events, which are camps for kids with diabetes, their siblings, and their parents."

It's estimated that about 400,000 people in the Tampa Bay area have diabetes and that perhaps a quarter of those are undiagnosed, so education is key to combating the disease.
