Dog rescued from Tampa house fire

Tampa, Florida -- A family dog is recovering after an overnight fire in the pooch's Tampa home.

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue says firefighters arrived at the home on 2810 Missouri Avenue to find heavy smoke coming from the front of the structure.

The residents were safe outside, but they told Fire Rescue a dog was still in the house.

Firefighters went inside the home to battle the fire, which was coming from the kitchen. Other crews went in search of the dog, where they found it unconscious in one of the bedrooms.

The animal was quickly brought outside, where paramedics gave it oxygen with a specially designed mask. The dog was revived and recovered at the scene.

Investigators believe the fire was caused by a pot being left on the stove.
