Adamo Drive could become home to city's largest mural

Tampa, Florida -- Adamo Drive could soon be home to the city's biggest mural.

Organizers of the Adamo Drive Mural Project say they want to paint a mural on the Fabricated Products of Tampa building located at 17th St. and Adamo Dr.

The building stands three stories tall and stretches for almost a block.

"I see potential here. It can be dressed up," said Dave Scott, who is spearheading the project.

The retired U.S. Air Force major general says he's already lined up two artists to help with the project. Students at nearby Hillsborough Community College will also be assisting.

"Hillsborough Community College is going to put a class on the books for this fall, give the kids course credit and they'll participate with the artists in a series of workshops to design and then they're going to go ahead and produce."

Scott says he hopes the mural will serve as a gateway to Ybor City with the mural reflecting the story of the historic district.

He says they need to raise a total of $30,000 for the work to begin. You can make a donation by visiting the project's website.

The building's owner has not only given her blessing but donated some money to the project too.

"I'm hoping the whole Adamo Drive corridor follows suit, cleans up everything and makes it more attractive to what Ybor City was and can be again," said Lynn Hunt, the owner of Fabricated Products of Tampa.

Scott hopes, if all goes well, the mural will be completed by early next year.
