Crawling to the top: How I've gotten this far and why I'd want to work for Charlie Sheen | News
That's me in that video -- freaking out about making one of the Top 50 spots for the Charlie Sheen Tiger Blood Internship competition. It’s been a week since the 250 Round 3 participants found out whether they’ve moved on to the final round or not. I made the cut -- but that’s the last I’ve heard.
I’ve yet to hear from Team Sheen if I’m his Tiger Blood intern or not. I’ll be at his show Friday, so maybe I’ll be able to ask him then.
I’ve got a plan -- a legal one, don’t worry -- to get his attention.
Many people ask me why I’d want to work for Sheen. They say he’s nuts, he’s unstable, he’s unpredictable.
I know that. That’s why I’d want to work for him. I would be an interesting experience like none other. But beyond that, I know I’ve got the skills and tenacity to completely pimp-out his social media presence. Let’s just hope he thinks that too.
It was definitely an interesting road to get to this point. It all started as a single Tweet from Charlie Sheen announcing his search: “I'm looking to hire a #winning INTERN with #TigerBlood. Apply here –http://bit.ly/hykQQF #TigerBloodIntern#internship #ad”
The applicants came pouring in. More than 82,000 people reached out. As did I. I tweeted back: "I applied 2 http://bit.ly/dJsTRF 2 be the #TigerBloodIntern bcuz I grew up with REAL TIGERS #tigerblood #winning"
It wasn’t a lie -- I did grow up with real tigers. For six years of my life I travelled across the country with various circuses. It gave me a unique angle for the competition -- I hoped it would make me stand out.
I made it to Round 2, and then Round 3. So I guess it worked. The instructions for Round 3 were to make a video and post it on YouTube addressing one of three questions provided. Make a video? Time to grab two of my talented friends and put my University of South Florida Mass Communications degree to use.
Five hours of shooting, two tapes, lost sleep, and a day and a half of editing later, my video was uploaded to YouTube (Go watch it!). And then I waited. And waited. And waited.
It seemed like an eternity. I spent hours of my free time watching and analyzing the other videos. I started a blog. I revamped my Twitter. I spoke with local news outlets. And I waited.
And then finally -- April 11 to be exact -- I got that fateful email from Internships.com.
“Congratulations! You have been selected as one of the final 50 candidates to be TeamSheen's Social Media Intern!”
That’s all I needed to see. There’s no use putting into words how I felt, watch the video above and see for yourself.
That was a week ago. Now I’m playing the waiting game again. Refreshing my email like there’s no tomorrow. Keeping myself busy though -- I created a Facebook fan page and I keep contributing to my blog. So you should Like me and read my blog.
As soon as I know, you’ll know -- just follow me on Twitter and watch this craziness unfold.
