Tampa, Fla. -- Rashad Callaway wanted a memorable senior season for two reasons: to go out as a winner and erase a forgettable junior year.

"Last year we were 11-16," Callaway said. "It was just so heartbreaking."

Callaway says the first losing season in his 15 years playing basketball got him focused to make sure the Spartans turned around the down year. Mission accomplished so far.

Tampa is 13-0, which is the best start for men's basketball since a 14-0 beginning in 1991.

"Great start to the season," senior forward Glyn Hunter said. "We have an opportunity to do something special here."

"They just don't want to lose," head coach Richard Schmidt said.

The Spartans are currently ranked 25th in Division II and are sure to rise after beating 23rd-ranked Eckerd Wednesday night.  Tampa will try to tie the 1991 mark Saturday at Lynn.

"We're definitely one of the best teams in the Sunshine State Conference if not Division II basketball," sophomore guard Callum Townsend said.
