Deputies charge 'Elmo' with attempted murder

Gibsonton, Florida -- Hillsborough deputies have arrested a man for stabbing a neighbor with a knife over a bonfire dispute.

Investigators say on Tuesday evening, an intoxicated Alvis Gene "Elmo" Tolson started the bonfire outside of his trailer.  The victim, 48-year-old Mark James Dickens, came out of his own trailer on the same property and tried to extinguish the fire with a hose.

That's when Tolson, 45, allegedly became upset and lunged at Dickens with a pocket knife, stating "I will kill you."

Dickens was cut in the throat area, and Tolson fled the scene on a bicycle.  Deputies were able to arrest Tolson without incident in the area of Gibsonton Drive and Interstate 75, and recovered the knife.

The victime was transported to Tampa General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
