Taking the show on the road Friday, Plant High School traveled to Lithia to play Newsome, who came into the game with an 8-3 record.  In the first quarter, it was all Plant, all the time!  The 3-times state champion Plant accounted for 3 touchdowns in the first quarter alone.  Two of them came from QB Phillip Ely, while the other came on the ground from Calvin Mann.

Heading into the 2nd, it was 22-7 favoring the Plant Panthers.  However Newsome struck with early field goal in the 2nd, but they were unable to build any momentum, as Plant scored on a 62 yard bomb between Phillip Ely, and Austin Aikes.  To finish out the half, both teams traded touchdowns, making it 36-17.

In the third Plant's Ely struck again, with a 1-yard run for a touchdown. Newsome quickly followed that up with a 6 yard touchdown run from Will Worth.

And by the time the 4th quarter rolled around, Phillip Ely still wasn't finished as he threw for one last touchdown, as the Panthers "gun slinger" had a hand in 6 scores Friday.

When the dust finally settled Plant was able to walk away with a convincing 50-23 victory.
