MacDill Air Force Base making wishes come true

Tampa, Florida -- Some very special children got a behind the scenes first-class tour of MacDill Air Force Base.

"Today means the world to him and to us," said Jasmine Perez, Make-A-Wish parent.

Make-A-Wish teamed up with the base to give five families a hands-on look of what MacDill has to offer. The invitation came after the base canceled its annual Airfest due to budget cuts.

"They still wanted to be able to entertain our wish families," said Lisa Andrews, with the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The children and their families got to take a look at the air control tower, see a plane and demonstration from the K-9 team.

For children like Issac Perez, suffering from life-threatening medical conditions, this isn't just another cool day but a day to forget about the challenges that lie ahead.

"Excitement to see the smile on his face . . . he loves animals so this experience right here with the dogs is very nice," said Perez's mother.

"Every day is a challenge and so this kind of gives them an escape from the hospitals and the doctors' offices to get out and get to have some fun together as a family," said Andrews.
