According to reports, Hillsborough Fire Rescue crews and Florida Forestry firefighters arrived to the area- just south of the FishHawk Skate Park near Colleen Lunsford Bevis Elementary School- shortly after 3 p.m.
Their quick action stopped the fire before it could spread further than 10 acres, and harm homes in its path. It got close in some cases though, as one report said the flames damaged fences just 20 or 30 feet from some homes.
A total of 40 fire rescue personnel and 20 units worked to extinguish the fire, and did so successfully in about an hour.
As for what sparked the flames, Hillsborough Fire officials confirmed the cause to be fireworks after witnesses spotted teens playing with them in the area.
Though it was an accident, officials say the teens and their parents will be placed in an intervention program deigned to educate, train and show the consequences of a fire.
