Wauchula, Florida -- With the National Hurricane Center forecasting Hardee County within the 5-day track of Tropical Storm Isaac, local emergency management officials are keeping in constant contact with state and regional emergency agencies. 

On Thursday, the county announced the availability of sandbags at the Hardee County Road Department in Wauchula. Up to 25 bags per household will be available between 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Residents will have to fill the bags with sand themselves.

Hardee County is also reporting:

  • No school closures have been scheduled 
  • No government closures are anticipated 
  • No shelters are open 
  • There are no watches or warnings for the area

Hardee County Emergency Management officials are also reminding citizens to be prepared by gathering items for their hurricane kits such as water, flashlights and batteries. For more information on hurricane preparedness citizens are encouraged to visit the County's Emergency Management webpage or call the Emergency Management Office at 863-773-6373.

Hardee County Emergency Operations Center is at a Level 3 (Monitoring) at this time. The county will continue to participate in conference calls with the State EOC, National Hurricane Center and National Weather Service to keep up to date on the situation. Information will be released as it becomes available.
