Josh Freeman Football Camp | News
Wesley Chapel, Florida -- The Bucs wrapped up their OTA's last week. Their final mini-camp is set for this week, but quarterback Josh Freeman managed to squeeze in some more activity this weekend.
He hosted his annual Josh Freeman Football Camp at Wesley Chapel High School. About 300 young players, ages 7-14, signed up for instruction from Freeman and 30 local high school coaches. The kids learned the fundamentals of football and received some off-the-field advice from the big quarterback.
"At the same time, you want to teach them some life lessons," Freeman told 10 News. "I just talked to a group about education, asked them what they want to do, and they all want to play in the NFL."
"To give yourself a chance, you've got to get an education, you've got to get good grades... You've got to commit yourself to that, then take care of the football side," he added.
The 2 dozen high school coaches who were working the camp, focus on the football fundamentals. It doesn't change on the NFL level. Josh Freeman told 10 News that the team's new coaches are working on fundamentals, as well as mechanics.
"Ron Turner (new QB coach) says it's all about your feet," said Freeman during a break in the camp. "You wouldn't be in the NFL if you couldn't throw the ball. He's working with me on footwork... countless footwork drills, balance in the pocket.. My accuracy has never been better, it's been great."
And Josh gave Bucs' fans a little sneak peak of the OTA's at One Buc Place, so far.
"Vincent Jackson, Mike Williams, Preston Parker, those guys have been dominating, I mean really dominating the OTA's."
After this week's mini-camp, the Bucs will take the next 6 weeks off. Then, Greg Schiano's first training camp begins the last week in July.
