Shuttle service for students starts today

Tampa, FL - Some students at Middleton High School will be able to take a special shuttle to school for the first time.

It stems from a series of accidents involving Middleton students who cross Hillsborough Avenue to get to school.

Girl to get bionic arm adjustment

Tampa, Florida -- She has a bionic arm, but it's not slowing 11-year-old Josalyn Kaldenberg from being a kid.

Three years ago, Moffitt Cancer Center surgeon Doug Letson teamed up with Shriners Hospital to help save Josalyn's arm from amputation. She had a large malignant tumor taking up her entire arm that had to be removed. Dr. Letson worked with a newly designed prosthesis to give her a new arm bone including shoulder and elbow. She was the first in the country to have this kind of procedure.

Police arrest man involved in 4-year-old shooting

Tampa, FL - Police have arrested one of the men involved in a fight that led to a 4-year-old boy getting grazed by a bullet on Monday.

Bakari Parks was booked into the Hillsborough County jail on attempted murder charges just before midnight.

Man killed in overnight hit and run crash

Tampa, Florida -- Detectives are searching for several drivers who fled the scene of a fatal crash early Saturday morning in Hillsborough County.

The Florida Highway Patrol says that shortly after 3 a.m., a 1985 Camaro was traveling westbound on East Fowler Avenue, east of Interstate 75 when it overtook and collided with another vehicle.

This impact caused the Camaro overturn, and its driver, 30-year-old Amari Williams, was thrown from the vehicle. The vehicle that Williams' Camaro hit left the scene.

Former Riverview High & UF grad trying to win van

Tampa, Florida -- A former Riverview High School student juggling honor classes with playing football and running track also found the time to work a part time job each day. Tony Dowels wanted desperately to do anything to help his mom and dad, but that demanding schedule almost cost him his future.

Under Friday night lights, Riverview High School junior Tony Dowels was making quite the name for himself on and off the football team.

"I was taking all AP classes and I was in the National Honor Society."

Politicians join growing demand to make Tampa roads safer for pedestrians

Tampa, FL -- Local political leaders in Tampa are calling for major safety improvements along Hillsborough Avenue. More specifically: the area where a teenager lost her life last month and another teen was struck and critically injured earlier this week.

Faced with a recent rash of pedestrian accidents and fatalities, community leaders --including Tampa City Councilman Frank Reddick -- will gather Monday to demand changes along Hillsborough Avenue.
