Jefferson WR Coffee completes college journey

Tampa, Fla. -- Jawuan Coffee can't explain why he decided to tell his story on the biggest day of football life.

Very few people at Jefferson High School knew what pushed Jawuan on the football field.  All they have to know is that the wide reciever loves life, regardless of where it's taken him.

"I don't want to be one of those people that starts at the bottom and stays at the bottom," Jawuan said the day after signing to play football at Becker College in Massachusetts.

Tampa Prep rolling over opponents at 19-0

TAMPA, Florida -- When it comes to high school basketball this season, there are few teams better than Tampa Prep right now. They're currently undefeated with a 19-0 record and ranked 17th in the state.

"I have a lot of selfless kids, yes they love to score 20 points a game, but they also know that at the end we win as a team and we lose as a team and each one of them has a vital role in that," said Tampa Prep head coach Joe Fenlon.

Jesuit jumps past the Longhorns 74-37

It was a runaway game Friday on the campus of Jesuit High School in Tampa as the Tigers made easy prey of the Lennard Longhorns.

From the beginning, you could tell that Lennard was overmatched taking on a strong Jesuit squad that has plenty of playmakers with some height.

In the first quarter, Jesuit got off to a good start by taking a 15 to 6 lead over Lennard. In the second quarter, Jesuit added another 15 as they coasted into halftime with a 30-16 lead. 

Student Finalist in PARADE Magazine's Rudy Awards

Plant City, Florida -- On the football field 18-year-old Dazmond Patterson is a star.

"He's a student of the game he's always asking questions even as a freshman he'd ask coach how can I get better," said Wayne Ward, head football coach at Plant City High School.

In the classroom, the running back is a straight "A" student with a 4.8 GPA.

"My mom always told me school before football," said Dazmond.

But it's his life off the field that lands the Plant City High School student as a finalist in PARADE Magazines prestigious Rudy Awards.

Armwood hangs on to beat Bartram, 46-38

Seffner, FL-- Armwood HS hung on to beat Bartram Trail of St. John's, 46-38, and advance to the 6A State Championship game.

Armwood will now play Miami Central, next Saturday at 1pm in Orlando, for the state championship.

Armwood jumped out to a 27-10 lead in the 3rd quarter.  Alvin Bailey scored a pair of touchdowns.

Bartram battled back with 4 second half touchdowns, to close to within 2 points...

Armwood's Wade Edwards scored 3 second-half touchdowns, to lead the Hawks to their 14th victory.


Sickles beats Alonso 20-14

On a rainy night in Tampa, a huge neighborhood rivalry went down to the final quarter as the Sickles Gryphons beat Alonso 20-14 in the season finale for both teams.

The first three quarters belonged to the visiting Gryphons.  First quarter, LaDonda Crittendon ran 9 yards for the first points of the game to give Sickles a 6-0 lead. 

Berkeley Preps' Agholor is Hot 101.5 player of the week

Berkeley Prep Sr. running back Nelson Agholor is the WTSP-TV, Hot 101.5 high school player of the week!

In helping the Buccaneers win the class 3A district 5 championship, Nelson Agholor carried the back 25 times for a total of 312 yards and two touchdowns.  Both Touchdowns were 70 yards or more!.

Agholor's main goal remains winning the state championship and his on field performance has already garnered serious offers from colleges like USC, Florida, Notre Dame and USF.
