Armwood holds off Venice to advance in the first round

Seffner, Fl - The undefeated Armwood Hawks looked like they were going to run away with their game against the Venice Indians in first round playoff action.  

Quarterback Noah Johnson had several big runs, including a 12-yard touchdown run going up the middle, giving the Hawks the edarly 7-0 lead.

But Venice answered with their own running attack, lead by running back Terry Polk.  The speedster raced around the end 59-yards to tie the game at 7-7 in the first.

Sickles holds off Plant City 17-10 in 1st round of the playoffs

On Friday the Sickles Gryphons were playing host to the Plant City in the first round of the FHSAA playoffs.  

For much of the first half neither team could get anything going offensively. But then just before the half, Q-B Issac Holder scrambled 10-yards into the end-zone to put Sickles up 10-0.

In the 3rd quarter the Raiders finally get on the board when Hassan Bailey scammpered down the sidelines for a 75-yard score.

Seffner, FL - Armwood head coach Sean Callahan reflects on his team as they prepare for what they believe is another state title run.

The Hawks have a 40-12 playoff record, the highest winning percentage for the playoffs in the state of Florida.

This Friday, Armwood (10-0) host the Venice Indians (8-2) in the first round of playoff action.

Armwood wins I-4 battle with Strawberry Crest, 40-6

Seffner, Fl - The Armwood Hawks made it look easy with a 40-6 home win over Strawberry Crest at Lyle Flagg Stadium.

Junior quarter Noah Johnson lead a balanced attack for Armwood (10-0), with five different players scoring a first half touchdown for the Hawks.

Armwood's defense, which allowed a 4th quarter touchdown, has only given up 40 points for the entire season.  

Tampa Catholic cruises past Bishop McLaughlin 56-3

Tampa, Florida -- In Tampa, the number nine Crusaders were taking on Bishop McLaughlin.

In the first quarter Q-B Kyle Ploucher finds Justin Motlow for a 21-yard TD pass to take a 20-0 lead over the Hurricanes.

Then later in the first, Justin Vertino plunged into the endzone from 7 yards out to put the crusaders up 27-0.

In the third quarter, Tampa Catholic's Bentlee Sanders does some juking and jiving as he returns a punt 43 yards to put the home team up 41-0.

Tampa Catholic went on to win this one 56-3.

Sickles blowout earns 7A-7 title for Gryphons

Tampa, Florida -- There was plenty on the line Friday night at Sickles High School. The Gryphons needed a win over Tampa Bay Tech to wrap up the 7A-District 7 championship and they cruised to a 35-8 win.

Sickles (8-1, 5-0) started fast like they always do. On the first possession of the game, the Gryphons got a 44-yard touchdown pass from Issac Holder to Jaaron Barrett to open the scoring at 7-0. Jake Hampton got an interception a few plays later and that set up a short score by Ray Ray McCloud.

Sickles celebrates homecoming with 48-6 win over Gaither

Tampa, Florida -- The Gaither Cowboys were hoping to not only spoil Sickles homecoming, but also gain a foothold on the Class 7A-7 district title.  Coming into the game, Sickles, Gaither and Tampa Bay Tech all sported 2-0 district records.

But it didn't take long to see it was going to be a happy homecoming for the Gryphons, as they ground out several long drives to run past Gaither 48-6.
